We found love in a hopeless place. Actually, our story is pretty cute.
It was the first day of church (yes, church) at the beginning of a new school year. I was sitting by myself and this guy and his roommates sat next to me. We introduced ourselves, neither of us commenting on the unusualness of the other person's name, and he asked me where I was from. I told him I was from Vegas (which is definitely one of the best things about introducing myself) and he said he had just been there. I mapped out for him where in the city I lived on the back of the church program. Church ended, we parted ways, and when retelling this encounter to our parents later that day, we both remarked flippantly that we'd probably get married one day.
Little did we know.
School started that week and would you believe it, this boy was in one of my classes. I was grateful because it was typically a Freshman class but I had neglected to take it. I wasn't excited about being surrounded by doe-eyed, "A"- hungry, freshly legal students. Fortunately this boy was no Freshman and was willing to sit next to me the entire semester (even though I honestly slept through 80% of every class).
The days flew by, the leaves turned from green to red to orange to dead, and not much had happened between this boy and I. But then, Halloween.
For those of you who don't know me, I am the most paranoid, weak-stomached, scaredy-cat you will ever meet in your life. A group of us decided to go to a haunted corn maze and I was terrified. By now this boy and his roommates were pretty close friends with me and my roommates, so naturally we went through the haunted house together. Unbeknownst to me, this was a maze of haunted houses, not just one. For the first few houses I was huddled behind one of our friends and never opened my eyes. However, he was too excited and moved way too fast for my petrified body. So, who was the closest available body to cower behind? You guessed it.
I latched onto that boy like there was no tomorrow and buried my face into the back of his hoodie. Later when discussing this adventure, my husband told me he thought I was just playing around and I was using this as an excuse to flirt. So naturally, he convinced all the maze's ghouls, ghosts, and goblins to terrorize me more so that I would hold him tighter.
"But now that I know you better, I've since realized that you were actually terrified."
Well, the rest is history and we have plenty of hilarious stories leading up to our wedding day. My husband and I are as different as night and day. But we love and support each other, keep a sense of humor, and always end the day with a hug and a kiss.
